Hike along one of the only two marine wilderness areas in the nation, Drakes Estero in Point Reyes National Seashore!As part of the Phillip Burton Wilderness, Drakes Estero is a protected estuary where freshwater mixes with salty ocean water. There are thousands of species of birds, mammals, fish, and other wildlife depending on Drakes Estero. We'll hike past robust eelgrass Meadows, sandbars that provide nursery areas for fish, harbor seals, and other marine life! If the tides are just right, we will also be able to hike to Drakes Head with stunning views of Point Reyes on top of the bluffs.
