About this Event

About the event: Discover Edinburgh's rich past on this guided historic walk through the heart of the city.

Starting at the National Portrait Gallery and climbing up to the majestic Calton Hill, we'll follow onto Old Calton Cemetery, through Princes Street Gardens, and up The Mound via the National Gallery. From there we'll explore the highlights and hidden gems of the Royal Mile and beyond. With every step, the spirit of old Edinburgh comes alive, offering an unforgettable glimpse into its vibrant and sometimes turbulent past. We will meet at the National Portrait Gallery where you can grab a beverage and use the toilet. Please note that although this tour is gently paced we will be negotiating cobbles, steps and hills in Old Town, Edinburgh. Participants are expected to provide their own appropriate clothing and shoes, including waterproof clothing for wet days.
Participants are responsible for assessing their own risk and the safety of themselves.

Delivered by: Jill MacBain will lead this historic walk. Jill is a volunteer for VOCAL and a history enthusiast with a particular interest in the people who have influenced and shaped the fascinating story of Scotland and Edinburgh in particular. She loves to find the lesser known spots off the beaten track where you can find a little bit of breathing space in our bustling city. Jill likes to encourage interaction and questions.
