Webinar Description:
This webinar will cover relevant, applicable, and specific ways that teachers & therapists, and mental health professionals can best understand, support, and help defiant children. During this webinar we will focus on building an understanding of how a defiant child is feeling, and what their behavior is trying to communicate. You will also learn targeted intervention strategies to aid in supporting defiant children learn how to cope, manage their emotional experience, and succeed.
Defiance is often an unhelpful protection for children and adolescents that initially developed out of the necessity to regulate anxiety and other painful emotions. When we fully appreciate that these off-putting behaviors arose from a place of insecurity, professionals can both empathize and better predict vulnerable situations. In part, defiance is a maladaptive emotional regulation strategy, so this webinar will teach effective emotional regulation strategies that will over time replace defiance. Additionally, professionals will learn mindful, proactive routines and therapeutic exercises to integrate into the classroom and therapy space.

Objectives:
The participants will be able to…
1. Explain the root of defiant behaviors and what they are communicating.
2. Identify ways to adjust your own behavior to support the emotional experience of a defiant child.
3. Identify strategies to help defiant children succeed
