About this Event
REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING MAY 24TH
Chicago for Chicagoans is excited to announce the return of our 2.5 hour walk through the far southside neighborhood of Hegewisch! Led by resident Emily O'Keefe-Davenport, this walk will take you through some wonderful hidden gems found on the expansive community's southeastern side.
Beginning at the Hegewisch South Shore Line Station, you'll stroll past countless historic homes, churches, and time-capsule mom & pop businesses, learn about early plans to create the "ideal workingman's community," and discover the neighborhood's connection to railroads, steel mills, airports, operas, and the infamous Leopold & Loeb M**der.
The afternoon will end with a celebratory drink at the Old Time Tap, a classic Chicago dive bar with vintage charm. Alternatively, curious tour-takers may enjoy strolling a few blocks east of our tour route to see the edge of Wolf Lake (located at the very edge of city and state limits) to observe its surprising biodiversity!
Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
