About this Event
This special wellness event is meant to bring people together through the power of presence, music and sound for a positive purpose. Namely, raising funds to help support and bring more awareness to the compassionate, crucial, and life-saving services that Savage Sisters provides to members of the Philadelphia community struggling with and recovering from Substance Use Disorder.
Yoga and live music are both powerful vehicles through which people can heal, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and simply get out of their heads and be present. This event combines the two.
During this event, yoga teacher Deb Cohen will be leading an accessible, all-levels, all-welcome Yoga class set to live heavy music immediately followed by a live Sound Bath.
The band MONKS POND will be performing and providing the live soundtrack for the Yoga Asana class that will be geared towards quieting the mind and creating space in the body to allow people to find presence while being bathed in sound.
Once the Yoga flow is complete and everyone is settled in comfortably, members of the band will provide a live Sound Bath to further deepen the experience with sound, and complete the sonic journey.
Essentially, this is an event where people's participation helps others by helping themselves. Yoga is a tool for better understanding and connecting to self so that we can be of service to something greater than ourselves.

** Please bring your own yoga mat
** Yoga Props are not required as this will be an all-levels practice, but feel free to bring anything you like to practice with regularly.
** Blankets, pillows and cushions are also not required, but highly recommended for comfort.
** Event officially starts at 1:00pm, but please arrive at least 15 minutes early to get set up and avoid disturbing the event.

You Are Welcome!
The physical movements and shapes associated with yoga asana, the physical practice of yoga, are simply a tool to help find presence and connect to Self. You are welcome to take or skip any and/or all of the poses offered. The invitation is to find any posture or static position that serves you, and simply be where you are.
** Please still bring a yoga mat and any props you'd like (pillows, blankets, blocks, cushions, etc.) to allow you to find a comfortable shape while you experience the sounds, cultivate conscious breath and practice tuning into the present moment.

Deb Cohen is a Philly-based Yoga Teacher and long time member of the metal and hardcore community, having been the vocalist for various metal and hardcore bands over the past 20+ years. She welcomes all levels to her yoga classes, and wants anyone who is even remotely interested to know: "Yoga is for everyone. It's not about how flexible you are or how many poses you can do. Yoga asana, or the physical practice of yoga, is just a tool to help still the mind so you can access and connect to your True Self."

Savage Sisters provides the Philadelphia community with resources for those living with or affected by substance use disorder. Their outreaches advocate for harm reduction, education, and ending the stigma around addiction. Additionally, Savage provides a safe, structured, trauma-informed and pro-social living environment for people recovering from substance use disorder where they can safely recreate their lives.
