About this Event

Haux Haux!

It is with great joy and excitement that we invite you to join the Huni Kuin Pinuya family from the heart of the Amazon, Pajé Baynawá, Sha and Kupi, for an evening of deep healing with the Hãpaya Baptism, the consecration of the medicine of hapé, and an evening of prayer through their sacred songs. We have 2 separate events, so you may join both or just come to the second half (Hapé and Singing Circle).

HÃPAYA BAPTISM: starts at 5 PM until 9:30 PM

Embedded in the heart of Huni Kuin culture, the Hãpaya Baptism is a ritual, and stands as a deeply sacred practice to open your voice and enhance communication.

The baptism is opened by specific prayers, traditional chants, and the application of bird pepper (yutxi). This mixture is delicately administered to your tongue.

This initiation is a gateway to "open the song" and "ignite the memory" of the chanters, giving them the ability to carry the sounds of the forest, its prayers, and spirits. The Hãpaya ceremony primarily focuses on unblocking the throat chakra, which enhances communication and expression.

Following the consecration of Hãpaya, it is of key importance to sing and open your voice to strengthen the power of this medicine. It's important to follow a strict diet for minimum one day, consisting of no sugar, no salt, no meat and no sex. More will be shared on the day.

If you are taking part in this ritual, it is very important you also stay for the hapé and singing circle to strengthen the power of this baptism to open your voice.

HAPÉ & SINGING CIRCLE: starts at 7 PM until 21:30 PM

Representing the female Mawa Isa Keneya group from Pinuya village, we will have Shayá, whose divine feminine strength and powerful voice will blow you away. Representing the masculine Pinu Huya Keneya group from Pinuya village, we will have Pajé Baynawá with his humility and incredible ability to strengthen our spirits, and Kupi, who was the first person ever to play the guitar in his village (and rocks it!), and whose depth of study is felt in each prayer he shares for us to feel lighter and brighter. This evening will bathe you in the strong vibrations of some of the most talented and powerful txanás (people who carry the sacred chants and prayers) of Pinuya Village.

The sacred medicine of hapé (tobacco snuff) will be shared to help ground you and clear you of any physical, spiritual, or mental blocks. Hapé is a fine powder made from tobacco combined with a mixture of tree bark, herbs, and other medicinal plants. The receiving of this medicine is not compulsory.

This is a unique opportunity to receive hapé and be moved by the prayers of the feminine and masculine forces. Pajé Baynawá, Sha and Kupi, are three Huni Kuin spiritual healers who are joining us directly from the Brazilian Amazon. This is a unique opportunity to consecrate medicines that originate directly from the ancestral source of nature--a transformative experience.

THE HUNI KUIN PEOPLE

Huni Kuin means the “true people”, and they are one of the largest populations of Indigenous people in the state of Acre, Brazil. The Huni Kuin are well known for their healing prayers all around the world and for spreading their joy through their rituals and culture.

It is a pleasure to invite the Huni Kuin back to the Portico Gallery once again to spread their joyful magic with everyone, which is a key component in how they bring healing around the world.

Só alegria family, see you there!
