On his eleventh birthday, downtrodden little waif Harry Potter, who lives in a closet under the stairs, learns the world isn’t what it appears to be when a gigantic bearded man on a flying motorcycle kicks in his door and gives him some hard truths: magic is real, his birth parents were wizards killed by the most powerful evil magician in history, and the scar on his forehead is the proof he survived. Ejected immediately from his humdrum existence with his dour adopted family, he enrolls at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for magical kids. There he meets the best friends he’ll ever have and begins an adventure that will change the world forever.
Harry Potter is about believing in magic when the world around you seems utterly mundane, and relying on the love of your friends and found family to protect you when defeat seems inevitable. That (and a couple crucial scenes) qualifies it as a holiday movie in our eyes. Warm up a mug of some non-trademark-infringing fantasy beverage and come see how the magic began.
