The world created by J. K. Rowling is dramatic, deeply unequal, and filled with injustice—and with the struggle against it. It inevitably invites comparisons, allusions, and parallels with the world we live in.

Questions of human rights arise in the wizarding world almost daily: What does it mean to be human, and do Muggles have rights? How can minority rights be defended—and why does Hermione fail in her efforts? In what ways is Harry Potter similar to Martin Luther King Jr.?

These and many other questions will be explored in a conversation with Dmitry Dubrovsky on March 5 at 7:00 pm.

Dmitry Dubrovsky is a historian and sociologist, PhD in History, and a researcher at Charles University in Prague.

Language of the event will depend on the audience and may be English or Russian.
