Southern WI Bluegrass - Presents a Bluegrass Harmony Singing Workshop
Do you yearn to sing harmony to your favorite songs and would you like more instruction to make your harmonies sound better? Well, you are in luck!
Experienced music teacher, Mike Schmidt will lead a three-workshop series which will teach the class and cover the following:
The goals of the class are
- · Learn the basics of two- and three-part harmony singing
- · Identify your voice range and comfortable harmony parts
- · Write harmony parts to live singing and recordings’
- · And practice what you learned
The class will meet in 3 sessions with 2 classes per session.
The 1st session is mandatory, while sessions 2 and 3 will be recorded, if you cannot attend in person.
The classes will be held at the Goodman Community Center.
Dates are: Saturdays, February 7, February 21 and March 14, 2026
From Noon to 3pm
Prerequisites
- Ability to play with some basic proficiency
(Not advanced, but getting around on the fretboard would be good) - Familiarity with I, IV, V number system
- Familiarity with tablature
About Mike
Mike Schmidt has been musical since early childhood, and has been teaching formally and performing since the age of 19. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education in 1984 - majoring on the French Horn - and has since been a school band director and private teacher on a variety of wind and stringed instruments, currently focusing on 5-String Banjo, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, and occasionally the Mountain Dulcimer. He has played in many bands, including Alive 'n' Pickin', The New Pioneers, Piper Road Spring Band, and others.
He has worked in Nashville as a session musician and a recording engineer at several facilities, including Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music; and currently owns a studio in Spring Green. He was a classical "disc jockey" for WKNO-FM, the NPR affiliate in Memphis, TN, and more recently, he has written 9 books for the Hal Leonard Corporation, the largest publisher of music books and sheet music in the world.
A retired technical writer, Mike currently teaches at Hart House Guitars in Mt. Horeb, WI, and teaches music workshops like this one.
