HarmonySING: Exploring the Art of Harmony (4 Week Series)

Mondays 7 - 9 PM | May 18th, 25th, June 1st, June 8th

HarmoniSING is an exploratory course focusing on singing and using complex harmonies. Using pocket songs and games from Singing Circles and vocal improvisation, this series will review the basics and move beyond them through nuanced listening exercises, ear training and harmonic exploration.

The songs we’ll learn will range from simple pocket songs, harmony vocal warmups, original arrangements by me and of course- spontaneous compositions we create together! If you have curiosity on how songs can be built, you’ll really enjoy these songs.

In this series, expect to:

  • Build a foundation of accessible music theory (intervals, chord structures, harmonic function)
  • Practice improvising within harmony—finding lines that support, contrast, and elevate the whole
  • Develop skills that can inform and expand your own creative choices while singing in a group

Who is this series for?
HarmoniSING is ideal for those with prior experience in group singing, circlesinging, choir, or vocal improvisation and can hold a vocal line on their own.

This series will be led by Destiny Cooper. Destiny is a conductor and educator that has been a facilitator at Boston Singing Circles BIG SING.
