US ARMY RETIRED VETERAN – WWII, KOREAN WAR, VIETNAM WARThe family of Mr. Robert Raymond Harbour, a US Army (Ret.) Robert Raymond (Bob) Harbour, 100, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026. Born in El Dorado, Arkansas, he carried his Arkansas roots throughout a life defined by faith, service, devotion, and joy.
Bob’s father passed away when he was an infant. His mother later married George Franklin Driggars of Caddo Gap, Arkansas, and Bob was raised in a loving blended family that shaped his steady character and deep appreciation for family. He graduated from Caddo Gap High School, where small-town values instilled in him the work ethic and determination that guided his life.
A Christian, Bob was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Sherwood, Arkansas. His faith sustained him through every season of life.
He joined the United States Army the day after a girlfriend told him he was not man enough to serve. That challenge sparked a decision that would define much of his life. He rose to the rank of Sergeant Major and served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, one of the nation’s highest honors for heroic or meritorious service in a combat zone. After retiring from the military, he continued serving others at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, overseeing the requisition of medical supplies to support patient care.
While stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Bob met the love of his life, Lillian Lucille “Lou” Hatten. Determined to win her heart, he learned to square dance and they became members of various square dance clubs, where they enjoyed many years of fellowship, music, and laughter. They married on May 6, 1950, sharing more than six decades marked by love, loyalty, and joy. Lou preceded him in death in 2016.
After Lou’s passing, Bob ballroom danced three days a week at the Arthur Murray Dance Center in San Antonio and competed in events across Texas, earning numerous awards. His energy, grace, and love of life inspired all who knew him. His final formal dance was at a 100th birthday celebration, held at the Arthur Murray Dance Center, a fitting tribute to the joy he found on the dance floor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Lucille Harbour; his parents, Jessie Few Harbour and Lora Alice Gladden Harbour; his stepfather, George Franklin Driggars; his sisters, Hazel Cobb Owen, Flossie Gladden Adams, Lois Rabjohn, and Doris Dearinger; and his brothers, Dillard Driggers, William J. Driggers, Sr., and Jerry F. Driggers.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Fay Jackson Driggers, sister-in-law, Leona Hatten and many nieces and nephews; extended family members; and devoted friends. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Nephews Michael F. Driggers and Shannon V. Driggers, New Horizon Senior Living in Sherwood, Arkansas, and Hospice Home Care for their extraordinary care.
