A new stand-up show about bad relationships, worse boundaries, and doing anything to be loved. This isn’t just about (queer) romantic mess — it’s about performance, approval, power, and how far we bend to be understood. Would you fly across the planet for a crush? Ever had a ”if we’re not married by the time we’re 30 let’s get married” pact? What do you do when your ex took all the sex toys with them?This is part of happeningfish’s doctoral artistic work on emotional labour, affective labour, and transgender stand-up comedy, exploring the relationships between laughter as activism, the limits of allyship, self-deprecation and survival, and what we can understand about each other. For over ten years he’s been making stand-up comedy, running shows like Punch Up! Resistance and Glitter, The Attic Underground, Feminist Comedy Night, and is part of the queer comedy crew Qoomikot.
The work is an artistic part of Jamie MacDonald’s artistic research at Performing Arts Centre Tutke at the Theatre Academy of the Uniarts Helsinki.
