Hands-on Houston: Blue & White Mosaic Tiles

This month’s Hands-on Houston celebrates Houston’s historic blue and white mosaic street signs! These tiled wayfinding markers have marked H-town streets for over a century, showcasing the influence craft has on our city. Create your own mosaic tile in a monogram style, then finish the tile at home with a grout kit (provided) to solidify the design. Once finished, display your new tile indoors or outdoors. Don’t forget to visit the galleries to view the historic tiles on view in !

Note: Please allow 25 minutes to complete this activity. The activity will take place outdoors, weather permitting, and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except in July). Each month, a teaching artist or guild demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Community members of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11AM and 3 PM and participate in a 20–25-minute activity. Materials are provided.
