The "real" James Bond was a Philadelphia ornithologist and acquaintance of Ian Fleming.
About this Event

In researching his recent book titled, The Real James Bond, about Philadelphian James Bond, whose identity was stolen by Ian Fleming, author Jim Wright found a goldmine in the Free Library's Rare Book Department. In the James and Mary Bond archives there, Wright unearthed all sorts of rare images and documents pertaining to the ornithologist Bond, a noted ornithologist -- including a photo of Bond (wielding a double-barreled shotgun) and a toy Aston-Marton DB5 (complete with ejector seat). The presentation will highlight rarely seen objects from the Free Library's collection. Wright, who was raised just outside of Philadelphia, is the author of several books about nature -- and sports biographies of a couple of athletes named Bobby Clarke and Mike Schmidt.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions seating capacity will be limited to attendees.
