Come and join us for this extra special music event - home-grown folk music, local heritage and good company, in the cozy atmosphere of beautiful 'Abhainn Druie' Function Room in the back of The Barn Cafe in Rothiemurchus.

This concert features local musicians Hamish Napier (flute, whistles, harmonium, vocals & stories) and Jordan Neil (guitar & Scottish small pipes), an all-Strathspey musical duo, with a programme of folk music themed on River Spey, surrounding hills and local heritage.

Please note this is part of a special 4-concert mini tour of community halls along the River Spey. If you can't catch Hamish and Jordan play in your local hall you might not have very far to travel to see them play at one of the other halls:
Thursday 19th March - Dalwhinnie Village Hall
Friday 20th March - Nethy Bridge Community Centre
Saturday 21st March - The Strathdearn Commuity Hub, Tomatin
Sunday 22nd March - The Barn Cafe, Rothiemurchus

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Hamish Napier - wooden flutes, whistles, harmonium, songs & stories

Jordan Neil - guitar and Scottish smallpipes

★★★★★ “The Woods is a beautifully constructed, evocative and distinctive album…a splendid and rare treat.” SONGLINES Magazine

is a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist and composer from Grantown-on-Spey. He is inspired by the heritage and nature of his native landscape of Strathspey. His album explores the flora and fauna of Scotland's native forests. It won Album of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards and is the third album in his Strathspey Pentalogy - an ambitions project to produce 5-albums in celebration of his homeland. This follows on from the first two in the series, (for the river Spey) and (for the old Speyside railway line). In this concert Hamish will also share a few of the new pieces from his forthcoming album, The Hill, the fourth in the series.

Humorous, engaging and heart-warming, Hamish’s performances often incorporate poems and stories about nature, folklore and communities.

“An excellent flute player.” The Guardian

JORDAN NEIL is an acclaimed bagpiper and guitarist from Aviemore, Scotland. Similarly to Hamish he attended Fèis Spè in his youth, and is very much in-demand as a musician in his native Badenoch & Strathspey, and the Inverness area. Jordan has worked alongside the Cairngorm Ceilidh Band and regularly plays in his folk duo . He attained a bachelor's degree in Applied Music at the University of the Highlands & Islands, studying under professional musicians Simon Bradley, Iain MacDonald (Glenuig), Matheu Watson and Anna-Wendy Stevenson.
