Halal Africa 2027 is the premier platform for the halal industry across Africa, the Middle East and beyond, bringing together producers, distributors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and consumers in a dynamic, culturally rich environment in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Halal market (across sectors) in Africa alone is valued at US$450m (with 40% of Africans being Muslim) in a global market of US$2 trillion. Despite the market and producers of Halal product and services on the continent, many African countries import 70% of halal products and services.

Halal Africa is multi-sectoral. It extends far beyond food, encompassing a wide range of industries that adhere to Islamic Shariah law principles of permissibility, ethical conduct, quality, and hygiene.

Key sectors within the global halal industry include:

Food and Beverages: This is the largest and most well-known sector, including everything from meat and poultry production (which requires specific slaughter methods called dhabīḥah) to processed foods, ingredients, and dining experiences (restaurants and catering).

Islamic Finance: This sector provides Shariah-compliant financial services, such as interest-free banking, Takaful (Islamic insurance), investment platforms, and Sukuk (Islamic bonds), which fund other halal businesses.

Modest Fashion: This industry caters to the demand for clothing that is both stylish and adheres to Islamic guidelines of modesty, including sportswear and accessories.

Tourism and Hospitality: Known as Muslim-friendly or halal tourism, this sector includes travel agencies, accommodations (hotels and resorts with prayer facilities and halal amenities), and tour services that meet the faith-based needs of Muslim travelers.

Cosmetics and Personal Care: This segment focuses on products that are free from prohibited ingredients (like animal by-products or alcohol) and produced under stringent hygiene standards.

Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare: This growing sector ensures that medicines, vaccines, and healthcare products comply with halal standards, from sourcing ingredients to manufacturing processes.

Media and Recreation: This includes the production of Islamic-themed content, media platforms, events, and recreational facilities (like gender-segregated gyms and spas) that align with Islamic values.

Logistics and Supply Chain: This is an essential supporting sector that ensures the entire supply chain—from warehousing and transportation to packaging and handling—maintains the integrity of halal products and prevents contamination.

Agriculture: Opportunities exist in the farming and production of naturally halal products such as organic honey, vegetables, and certain types of livestock, with a focus on ethical practices and proper certification.

These sectors collectively form a substantial and rapidly growing global economy that promotes ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible business practices, attracting both Muslim and
