About this Event
Join us for a hands-on habitat creation session at Fordham Park, helping to make the park a better home for bumblebees and other wildlife! We’ll be planting native hedgerow species such as hawthorn, dog rose, honeysuckle, and blackthorn, providing essential food, shelter, and connectivity for pollinators this winter.
No prior experience is needed — just bring your enthusiasm, outdoor clothes, and sturdy footwear. Tools and guidance will be provided, and there will be plenty of time to chat and learn about the importance of hedgerows and pollinator-friendly planting.
📍 Meeting Location:
We will meet at the entrance to the park on Pagnell Street, marked on the map in event photos – SE14 6LU, What3Words: ///really.join.sing. The entrance is just a 3-minute walk from New Cross Train Station. There are toilets and opportunities to buy food and drinks in nearby cafes, such as Urban Baristas.
🗓 Schedule:
- 11:00 – 12:00: Hedgerow planting around the park perimeter
- 12:00 – 13:00: Break for lunch
- 13:00 – 15:00: Hedgerow planting continues
☕ What to Bring:
- Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear
- Gardening gloves if you have them
- Packed lunch (or buy something from local cafes)
- Reusable water bottle or hot drink
This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, spend time outdoors, and make a real difference for pollinators this winter.
Please book your free place to let us know you’re coming!
🌼 About the Project
This event is part of Buzzing in the East End (B.E.E), a project creating pollinator-friendly habitats across southeast London. Our goal is to support bumblebees, including local rare species such as the Brown-banded Carder and Shrill Carder, by improving habitat, planting hedgerows, and increasing green connectivity across the city.
We look forward to seeing you there! 🐝
