About this Event

Homebuyer University (February 2025)

Habitat Chicago’s Homebuyer University course will prepare you with the knowledge, tools, and resources to be able to successfully purchase your first home. This course is taught by experts in the homebuying industry in a neutral, low-pressure, virtual setting. You will learn the steps of the homebuying process, identify your homeownership goals, and create an action plan for financial and lending readiness. By the end of the course, you will have a clear path to pursue your homeownership goals.

Homebuyer University is open to the public, and anyone is welcome to enroll in the course. Please note that Homebuyer University is separate from our Affordable Homeownership Program and participation does not constitute a loan application with Habitat Chicago. Additionally, participation in this course does not substitute for the education requirements of the Affordable Homeownership Program.

Program Classes

Classes will take place virtually every Thursday evening over three weeks, with an optional resource day on week four:

February 6 | Your Homebuying Journey (6:00 pm – 08:30 pm)
February 13 | Financial Preparation for Homeownership (6:00 pm – 08:30 pm)
February 20 | Mortgages (6:00 pm – 08:30 pm)
February 27 | Homeownership Resources (6:00 pm – 08:30 pm) (this class is optional but highly recommended)

The Homebuyer University course covers interconnected topics about the homebuying process and so it is important that students attend every class in the series. Each class will build on the material presented in previous classes, and you will interact with the curriculum both during and outside of class-time. By preparing for each class and working through your personalized action plans, you can get the most out of the course.

Course Payment

There is a $30 fee for enrollment, which will help cover course materials for all four classes as well as shipping costs. This fee is non-refundable and can be paid at the time of registration.
