Come and be part of this spectacular evening at the Guitar Masters Festival on Friday, April 26th, hosted at the esteemed Klavierhaus piano atelier (790 11th Avenue, corner of 54th Street). Immerse yourself in a captivating evening of musical chairs, featuring dynamic pairings among six exceptional guitarists: Steve Cardenas, Joel Harrison, Brad Shepik, Max Light, Pete McCann, and Grant Gordy. Backed by bassist Jerome Harris and drummer Matt Wilson, the night’s festivities will be curated by acclaimed guitarist Joel Harrison of the Alternative Guitar Summit, who will also perform in this eclectic showcase.

Meet the Guitar Masters:

  • Steve Cardenas: Renowned for his contributions to ensembles like the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band and Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Cardenas currently collaborates with the Ben Allison Band and others. An international performer and educator at The New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music, Cardenas co-authored the Thelonious Monk Fakebook, showcasing his commitment to preserving jazz legacies.
  • Joel Harrison: A Guggenheim Fellow and acclaimed guitarist, composer, and educator, Harrison has fearlessly pushed the boundaries of jazz. As the curator for the Guitar Masters Festival’s opening night gala, he brings his visionary perspective to the event. Founder of the Alternative Guitar Summit, Harrison seamlessly connects various American traditions, from jazz to classical, rock, and country.
  • Brad Shepik: A guitarist, composer, and educator with nine albums as a leader, Shepik is a prominent figure at major festivals and clubs worldwide. Leading the Brad Shepik Organ Trio and Quartet, he consistently pushes musical boundaries and has collaborated with jazz luminaries such as Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, and Carla Bley.
  • Max Light: Based in Brooklyn, guitarist Max Light secured 2nd place in the esteemed 2019 Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition. With versatility as a hallmark, Max has showcased his talent through performances and recordings alongside acclaimed artists in diverse musical contexts.
  • Pete McCann: A jazz guitarist from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Pete McCann has been a prominent figure in the New York City jazz scene for over three decades. Recently releasing his seventh album as a leader, “Without Question,” McCann’s extensive career includes collaborations with notable artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, and Maria Schneider Orchestra.
  • Grant Gordy: An accomplished guitarist, Grant began his musical journey with bluegrass mandolinist David Grisman’s groundbreaking bluegrass/jazz quintet. His latest quartet recording, Peripheral Visions, showcases Gordy’s expansive musicality honed through years in the contemporary string band scene, reflecting his broad musical perspective and intuitive understanding of diverse influences.
