About this Event
Enjoy a walk along the trail system in Shelbyville's largest park, Blue River Memorial Park. On this portion of the trail you will see mature canopy trees and a prairie that lies at the center of a nationally recognized cross-country track. Many species of native birds call this area home, so we will undoubtedly encounter several different species along the way. In recent years there has been a concerted effort to remove invasive plants from the understory, conducted by both the Parks Department and Blue River Alliance for Native Conservation and Habitats.
Our guide will be Kris Schwickrath, a former Latin & mindfulness teacher, and current landscaper for the parks. She is a founding member of BRANCH, a Master Gardener, and member of INPS.
Participants will meet at the Blue River Trailhead Boardwalk. Convenient parking to Trailhead would be next to Blue River Run Dog Park and Soccer Fields, which are all clustered at the first left hand turn.
This guided hike is FREE and limited to Indiana Native Plant Society Members and their guests. Registration in Advance is required.
