Saturday 10 - 5: Introduction to Rap and Beatboxing
In this workshop participants will learn beatbox fundamental sounds and best practices. We'll play games to strengthen solo beatboxing and lean into freestyle rap philosophy, drills, and games.
In the second part of the workshop we'll blend foundational techniques, play, and authentic expression with a nod to Hip-Hop's roots in NYC, and will dive into beatboxing in pairs, and in ensembles. On the rap end, we'll lean into more advanced rhyme pattern techniques, punchline games, how to move through getting stuck or missing a rhyme, staying on topic, and leaning into our stories.
Sunday 10 - 5: Putting it all Together
We'll discuss the Tile Theory structure for impactful verses, explore rhyme writing and its benefits for freestylers, and utilize an exercise that blends the space between written and freestyle. We'll pair up beatboxers and emcees; improvise full songs, play more advanced cypher games, and come together for ensemble beatbox and rap scenes into songs.
