Join Jo to help with our legacy piece for the Flight Path project - create a world map to later add birds and their migratory routes to!Join our tutor, Jo, for this sewing workshop, where creativity meets geography! Flight Path: World Map Tapestry on Saturday 8th February, 10am - 2pm with lunchtime treats provided.
In this fun and relaxed workshop, you will join other sewing enthusiasts to contribute to a world map tapestry which will be displayed in the Learning Centre as a legacy piece for our Flight Path project. Under Jo's direction, you'll get to experiment with vibrant fabrics, and get tips on design placement to make your tapestry truly one-of-a-kind. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to meet fellow crafting enthusiasts and share ideas.
This will be the second of our two World Map sessions - between these two sessions, we have been running 2-hour workshops where partcipants have created felt birds to be placed on the map. Once these workshops are complete, the second World Map Tapestry session will be to finish the binding and aesthetics, and then to place the birds and mark their migratory paths with golden threads.
So grab your fabric scissors and let’s get sewing—adventure awaits on your sewing machine!
Items you will need:
-Sewing machine or needles for hand-stitiching
-Scissors & sewing kit
-Lunch We have machines and accessories here, so these aren't a necessity to bring, but please email us if you wish to borrow anything: [email protected]. The idea of the World Map is to show birds and their migratory paths; however, the map will also show the colours of the warmer and wetter parts of the world in order to highlight areas where Climate Change is affecting our feathered friends and their habits.
ABOUT FLIGHT PATH:
Through a combination of creative writing workshops, lectures, immersive walks and various mediums of art, we hope to raise awareness and a comprehensive understanding of how climate change is altering the behaviour and distribution of bird species worldwide.
