About this Event
Grounded in Clay is a small, in-person wellness experience created for Black adults in Houston. The day is centered on coming together in community and sharing creative time in a calm, welcoming space.
We begin by breaking bread together, sharing breakfast during a guided and interactive opening led by Dr. Allison Bates, LCSW-S and founder of The ALLICE Collective. This portion of the experience invites participation and reflection while creating space for shared conversation.
The experience then moves into a guided ceramic arts session facilitated by Third Coast Clay, the largest artist-owned, minority-run ceramic community studio in Southeast Texas. This portion of the day is designed to be accessible for those new to working with clay, with an emphasis on the experience of creating alongside others rather than skill or finished results.
The day closes with mindful movement, guided meditation, and reflection, offering time to slow down and ground before transitioning out of the experience.
Because ceramic pieces require firing, participants will not take their work home the same day. Details about when finished pieces will be ready for pickup will be shared.
Grounded in Clay is intentionally designed as a small-group experience that centers shared time, creativity, and being together in community.
Space is limited. Registration is required.
This experience is free thanks to grant support.
