“There exists a common approach to music making in which a kaleidoscopic range of dramatically contrasting qualities of sound (timbre) is sought after … [a] fundamental bias for contrast of color - heterogeneity of sound rather than similarity of color or homogeneity of sound.”
- Olly Wilson, from “The Heterogeneous Sound Ideal in African-American Music,” (1992)
The final concert of The Green Room Ensemble's 2025-26 season, this program seeks kaleidoscopic range. With Misato Mochizuki's frenetic and dense Brains, Olly Wilson's spacial and placid Piano Trio, and the both joyful and melancholic grooves in Andy Akiho's The Prospects of a Misplaced Year, we explore three very contrasting worlds of sound and color.
