Springfield Lakes Nature Care Inc is pleased to be involved in the Great Southern Bioblitz to capture the bio-diversity of the Opossum Creek region. This guided nocturnal walk will give you some information about this dry rainforest & some of the animals found in and arround the creek. The short walk along a flat path that runs adjacent to Oppossum Creek is the perfect place to observe nocturnal animals as they hunt for food under the cover of darkness.
You will need to have the iNaturalist app downloaded to your phone but don't worry it's free. Simply upload it to your phone from the google play store before attending the Nature Walk. Using your smartphone or camera you can photograph plants, insects, birds, frogs, reptiles, or native animals that you observe during the spotlight night. Your aim is to get a good clear photograph. This evidence can help scientist's map locations of vulnerable or endangered species. The value of this data can be fed back to our local government about areas of significance.Please have your phone's location on to record the whereabouts of your finding. BYO water bottle, torch or head torch, binoculars, if you have them & wear comfortable closed-in shoes & long sleeved shirts or trousers to prevent insect bites.
We will also be setting a moth light trap to see what moths we have attracted while we have our hot chocolate, tea or coffee & cookies at the end of the walk.
