At Epiphany, we commemorate the crucifixion of Our Lord by following the Good Friday liturgy from The Book of Common Prayer, which includes a reading of the passion narrative from John’s Gospel, a silent meditation in lieu of a sermon, extensive intercessory prayers (called the “Solemn Collects”), and the recitation of certain anthems which recall the significance of the cross. During the service, an actual cross is brought into the nave, where attendees are invited to come and offer prayers.
