Part of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival programme, presented by originalprojects;.
'go gently into the garden of [im]possible dreams' is a new ‘3-D collage’ exploring entanglements between nature, chronic illness and possibility. Presented as an ‘in-progress’ artwork, it has been created especially for this year’s Norfolk & Norwich Festival .
Visual art, plants, text, cyanotypes, and naturally dyed yarns have been thoughtfully woven together to form an imagined garden of ideas. The work is an immersive experience, inviting responses to provocations around nature-connection, slowness, and different ways of being in the world.
The exhibition is part of a long-term collaboration between people living in and around Great Yarmouth, the *conditions apply artist collective — comprising Caroline Cardus, Ellery Child, Genevieve Rudd and Joanna Holland — and originalprojects;.
Over five months, *conditions apply curated a series of participatory experiences for residents who identify as living with chronic illness and/or as Disabled. People were welcomed into a gentle space which prioritised access, equity, conversation and creativity. Together, participants experimented with different artistic processes and co-created go gently into the garden of [im]possible dreams.
Access is integral to the project, with level access, rest spaces throughout, and accessible toilets available. Visitors are welcome to move through the exhibition at their own pace.
*conditions apply are a collective of East Anglian artists who identify as living with chronic illness and/or as Disabled. The name is a wry take on the small print that no one ever reads, and an acknowledgement of the day-to-day impacts of medical conditions.
Entry is free and all are welcome.
'go gently into the garden of [im]possible dreams' is an UNLIMITED UK Partner Award 2025 commission with Norfolk & Norwich Festival, made possible with funding from Arts Council England.
This work builds on an ongoing relationship with Joanna Holland, evolving from her 2024 exhibition 'Out of the Blue' with originalprojects; and continuing through performances as part of YARMONICS 2025.
