About this Event
The event is chosen to be part of the Mayor of London Cultural Weekend which we will celebrate on Saturday 24th June 2023 funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Go Africa Community Hub is a movement created to assemble the African and Caribbean creative in Islington to come together and teach others about African culture through arts and crafts. The programmes and events organised include a marketplace where the ethnic communities convene and where locals can buy original and firsthand art, and ethical handcrafts and participate in interactive workshops including book reading by African authors to support young adults and children regarding their identity.
This movement was created in 2019 to empower African Creative communities. Our mission is to promote a positive understanding of the beauty of African culture by giving a new audience insight through our interactive workshops, because of the limited community facilities available to the person of Islington, which has impacted this ethnic community. This was translated in a recent survey 2022 Being Black In Islington carried out by The UBELE Initiative. The survey highlighted a lack of belonging and loss of identity amongst people of African and Caribbean descent, especially the migrants and refugees whilst living in Islington. This event is in partnership with a collective of grassroots organisations, artists, and local residents and will showcase a vibrant festival of arts, music, food, and dance from the Africans In Islington and Special Guests.
The event has been chosen to be part of the Mayor of London's Cultural Weekend. It is Funded by The National Community Fund @tnlf and Islington Community Chest Fund
