Prevention, Protection, Partnership: Combating Human Trafficking of Women and Children
About this Event

For the past several years, GlobeMed at GWU has hosted impactful events in support of our partner organization, Set Her Free, with the goal of raising both funds and awareness around pressing global health and human rights issues. Continuing this tradition, we are excited to present this year’s conference: Prevention, Protection, Partnership: Combating Human Trafficking of Women and Children. This event reflects GlobeMed at GWU’s commitment to engaging students and professionals in meaningful dialogue around complex global challenges while supporting the critical work of Set Her Free.

This year’s conference will take place on Sunday, April 19th from 9:15 AM to 2:30 PM in the Elliott City View Room. The event will bring together experts, advocates, and students to explore the multifaceted issue of human trafficking, with a focus on prevention strategies, survivor protection, and the importance of cross-sector partnerships. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers, participate in interactive workshops, and engage in discussions aimed at deepening understanding and inspiring action.

We are honored to welcome Martina Vandenberg, Founder and President of the Human Trafficking Legal Center, and Dorothy Douglas Taft, who will share their expertise and experiences working to combat human trafficking. In addition to keynote talks, the conference will feature two rounds of workshops covering topics such as sponsorship, policy and law, awareness-building, and global health approaches. The day will conclude with a collaborative final discussion, providing space for reflection and continued conversation.

The event will begin with a light breakfast, followed by opening introductions, speaker sessions, workshops, and a lunch break. A detailed schedule is outlined below. We hope you will join us for this important event as we work together to raise awareness, support survivors, and strengthen partnerships in the fight against human trafficking, alongside GlobeMed at GWU and Set Her Free.
