GIRLS! THE TECH COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! THIS EVENT IS ORGANISED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! COME AND JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED!

I am delighted to invite you to our IN-PERSON "Girls Into Coding " event! It's a free event. Choose 1 of 4 exciting workshops. There will also be lightning talks to inspire & encourage girls aged 11 -14 to get involved in tech. Each participant can only book one workshop because they will run simultaneously.

You will be able to explore coding activities, robotics, engineering, electronics, and physical computing using the Raspberry, the Micro: bit, the Jetson Nano and The Circuit Playground Express. This is a fantastic opportunity to use Python, Micropython (text-based language), and Microsoft Makecode while getting some hands-on making time.

IF YOU BOOK MORE THAN ONE TICKET PER PARTICIPANT, YOUR BOOKING WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED.

THE 4 WORKSHOPS BELOW WILL RUN SIMULTANEOUSLY - THEREFORE EACH PARTICIPANT SHOULD ONLY BOOK ONE WORKSHOP.

PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER YOUR DAUGHTER FOR A WORKSHOP SHE HAS ALREADY PARTICIPATED IN OR YOUR TICKET WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELED.

WORKSHOPS:

Workshop #1: Ai Explorer Bot with Vision Sensor(Ages 11 to 14)

Build, program and train a Microbit-powered robot to move using the Huskylens AI-vision sensor. This versatile sensor is equipped with face, object & colour recognition capability, and you'll explore using it to track objects.

Workshop #2: Exploring Motors & Sound using the Microbit! (Ages 11 to 14)

A super fun activity to measure volume and display it with a motor. We’re going to be doing some basic Python programming in this activity. You also have the opportunity to use the make code block-based programming language. So whatever your level, you have lots of options!

Workshop #3: Train Your Robot to Dance with You (Ages 11-14)

After building a mini robot incorporating an NVIDIA Jetson Nano, you will use Machine Learning (a form of Artificial Intelligence (AI)) to teach your robot how to dance with you. You’ll learn about machine learning, coding with Python, and some new dance moves!

Workshop #4: Industrial Automation using Robotics (Ages 11-14)

Learn to control the movements of a robot arm using Python from a Raspberry Pi computer. Connect a game controller to make the control easier. Then challenge yourself to write code to move objects around on the table.

Experience: Beginners are welcome!

LIGHTNING TALK:

Ilenia Maietta - "You Belong Here"

Ilenia is Computer Science student, in her final year. Initially she wanted to be a writer, then a scientist, so she decided to combine them both by learning to write code for science and technology! She aims to develop better technology for everyone, to improve everyone's experience with tech. She loves coding and designing and she wants to become a software engineer when she graduates. She thinks there are not enough girls and women in technology, so she volunteer with Byte Queens, a non-profit for women in technology to support girls who want to go into technology !When she is not coding, she's most likely reading a book, travelling or crocheting!

Susie Wang - "The Adventures of Studying Computer Science"

Susie is a current Computing student at Imperial College London. She has always been interested in technology, studying computer science throughout school and experimenting with fun coding challenges along the way. Since starting university, she has attended exciting events around the world, discovering opportunities she never knew were possible before. She has also gained real-world experience through various internships, allowing her to apply her skills and grow both technically and personally.

Susie is passionate about building community and serves as an Events Officer for her university's Computing student society, where she strives to enrich the student experience. In her spare time, she enjoys dance, seeing more of the world, and saying yes to new adventures.
