About this Event
Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.
GIG Washington - Puyallup Guest instructors: Katie Egan & Lauren Tinklepaugh
Katie Egan is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt out of Puyallup, WA. She is the head instructor and co-owner of Vanguard Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. At Black Belt she is a Pan Gi and Nogi Champion and American Nationals Champion along with a Worlds, Brazilian Nationals, and Europeans medalist and multiple time IBJJF Open Champion. She ended the 2023 Nogi season as the 6th ranked IBJJF Adult Female Black Belt, and the 2024 Nogi season ranked 8th. She is also a previous Flograppling 115 pound ranked grappler. With over a decade of training, she loves sharing her passion for jiu jitsu, whether it’s competing, teaching, or reffing.
Lauren Tinklepaugh began her jiu jitsu journey during her sophomore year of college in 2010. She started at the Catamount BJJ Club through The University of Vermont after the 1-millionth request from her now-husband, Jeff. She agreed to give it a solid 2 week try before she could admit ‘this wasn’t for her’ and quit without guilt…
In January 2015, Lauren moved to Seattle, Washington as a 4-stripe blue belt under Vince Guy of Catamount BJJ/Combat Fitness and Roberto Maia of Boston BJJ. She soon began training, alongside Jeff, with Marcelo Alonso at his Seattle academy where she was awarded her black belt in December 2022.
She has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a background in operations, she currently works part time as the Front Desk Manager and Youth Program Coordinator at Marcelo Alonso BJJ. Her other hobbies include hiking, backpacking, watercolor painting and crochet.
