A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event for women and girls taught by some of the best women in the sport. No experience required.
About this Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Oregon - Portland Guest instructors: Michelle Standing & Gloria Grachanin

Michelle Standing has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts since 2008 and is a black belt and co-owner of Brazilian Top Team Portland. She has competed in MMA with a record of 2–1, including fighting in Las Vegas at the inaugural all-female Tuff Girls event hosted by Tuff-N-Uff in 2010. In addition to her MMA experience, Michelle has competed extensively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning medals at numerous regional tournaments including the IBJJF Portland Open, Roll A Lot, Revolution, Sub League, Ground Warrior, and the Oregon Open. Her competitive background reflects years of dedication to both the technical and competitive sides of the sport.

Beyond competition, Michelle is deeply committed to coaching and community development through Jiu-Jitsu. As a co-coach of both kids and adult programs at Brazilian Top Team Portland, she focuses on building confident athletes and strong community connections. She actively organizes and participates in local outreach efforts throughout Northeast Portland, helping make martial arts accessible to young athletes and families. Through sponsorships, discounted memberships, donated uniforms, and mentorship, Michelle and her academy work to remove barriers for kids who want to train—creating opportunities for the next generation to grow through Jiu-Jitsu both on and off the mats.

Gloria Grachanin is a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt who has dedicated ten years to the art. She placed 3rd at the 2023 No-Gi World Championships and has also competed in Mixed Martial Arts fights with 2 amateur and 4 professional fights.

As the manager of V7 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Gloria teaches Youth BJJ and Adult Fundamentals, where she is passionate about creating a welcoming environment and helping students discover their strength through Jiu Jitsu.

Known for her technical approach and love of submissions like Triangle chokes and S-mount armbars, Gloria is excited to share her knowledge and encourage more women to step onto the mats.

COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 4/12/26 at 2:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 11:30 am. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 12:00 pm.
