About this Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Oregon - Portland Guest instructors: Sarah Oriza and Allie Szymoniak

Allie Szymoniak is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. She began training in 2012 at Girls Gym in Portland, Oregon. She has developed a steady, technical approach to the art. Her coaching style is patient, enthusiastic, and collaborative, emphasizing that problems in jiu-jitsu can be solved in multiple ways. Today, she teaches students of all levels and continues to build her own skills.

Sarah Oriza is a first-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who began training in 1996. A pioneer in the early days of women’s MMA, she competed when opportunities for female fighters were rare and helped pave the way for the athletes who came after her. She is the owner and co-founder of G.I.R.L.S. Gym in Portland, Oregon, which she opened in 2005 to build a long-term, female focused training community. Known for her technical depth, clear instruction, and supportive coaching style, Sarah has spent decades helping students develop confidence, skill, and strength both on and off the mats.

COST: $20 Min Donation. All Donations Welcome.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 1/10/26 at 3:00 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 1:30 pm. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 2:00 pm.
