The legendary satire of power and romance, now with a tartan twist!
Our production stays entirely true to the music and satire you love, but with a beautiful new backdrop—transporting the action to a charming medieval Scottish world. Expect to hear...
✔️ Three Little Maids from School
✔️ A Wand'ring Minstrel, I
✔️ I've Got a Little List
✔️ My Object All Sublime
✔️ Here's a How-de-Do
...and all the other toe-tapping hits you know and love!
We're thrilled to be returning to the Royal Hippodrome this May with an all time G&S favourite - The Mikado.

Expect the familiar topsy turvy tale and toe-tapping tunes that you love, now with a tartan twist! A rugged medieval reimagining of a comedic classic, our production honours and celebrates the genius of Gilbert & Sullivan, while bringing a vivid and compelling atmosphere to this timeless story.
What’s it all about?
In a town where flirting is a capital offense, the local executioner is in over his head. The chaos truly begins when a wandering minstrel with a dangerous secret arrives in search of his true love—only to find himself entangled in a web of absurd laws and paradoxical logic.
When the fearsome ruler demands a head must roll to satisfy the law, the town is plunged into a hilarious world of bureaucratic blunders, jealous rivals, and classic comedic twists.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the world of light opera, you're in for a spectacular night out that honours the past while embracing a bold new spirit.
Praise for The McAdo:
“Gilbert and Sullivan would be proud. Savoyards everywhere should come see it.” — CTX Live Theatre
“…this resetting really does work in that it sharpens and clarifies Gilbert's original satirical intent.” — Berkshire on Stage

“It’s possibly better [than the original], certainly for our times... I cannot recommend it more highly.”— The Stages of MN
“The work very organically fits a Scottish setting with minimal changes… all of the good has been preserved.” — GSVLOC Feedback Report
“A brilliant reimagining... a world-class opera take-off on The Mikado.”— David Glen Robinson, Arts Critic
