About this Event
Why Pakistan?
Torrential monsoon rains and floods have inundated large swathes of Pakistan since June 2022, pouring up to five times the 30-year average rainfall and impacting at least 33 million people. More than 3 million children are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, and at increased risk of waterborne diseases, drowning and malnutrition. UNICEF has termed it a "a calamity of biblical proportions."
What's the event?

Apoorva Mudgal is an Agra (North India) born and New York based Hindustani singer and composer. Her serene vocals, steeped in nostalgia and longing make for transcendental performances of the Urdu Ghazal, Hindavi folk and Punjabi Sufi Kalaam - often minimally arranged to stringed instruments like the classical guitar and Kora (African Harp).
What's ghazal?
Ghazal is an art form that traditionally invokes melancholy, love, longing, and metaphysical questions and is often sung by Iranian, Indian, and Pakistani musicians. The form has roots in seventh-century Arabia, and gained prominence in the thirteenth- and fourteenth-century thanks to such Persian poets as Rumi and Hafiz. In the eighteenth-century, the ghazal was used by poets writing in Urdu, a mix of themedieval languages of Northern India, including Persian.
