The rules and regulations of product making can be intimidating enough that many herbalists don’t know where to even begin. This full day class will give you the basics to get started with confidence. It’s not as hard as you think! In the first half of class we will focus on required paperwork for your herbal products, keeping a clean (according to the government!) workspace, and if you need a commercial kitchen or not. You will receive a PDF of the presentation, and some helpful links for where to go when you feel stuck.
By the end of this class you will be able to:
● Understand common GMP terminology
● Know what information you need to record and keep
● Build the templates you need for compliance
● Understand the reasoning behind the requirements
● Get started on building your GMP compliance so you can grow your business without fear
● How to handle issues with quality and customer feedback
The second half of the day will focus on how to name, label and market your herbal products to keep yourself within government regulations and out of trouble. This portion of the class will cover the importance of product names, and why there are some words and phrases that cannot be used and why. What is required for your products labels and what isn’t. We will also discuss advertising your products,and best practices for keeping your online presence safe while remaining informative and educational. With a little thought and effort you can still have a successful herbal products business, educate your customers, follow the regulations, and even enjoy yourself!
