GET INTO TEACHING EVENTS COME TO THE WEST MIDLANDS

Programme of free events for people curious about teaching as a career and those ready to step into the classroom

 

A free Get Into Teaching event is coming to the West Midlands to encourage people to think about a career in the classroom and to find out more about life as a teacher. The event is open to everyone including those looking to make a career switch later in life.


The event from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturday 11th November at Birmingham Conference and Events Centre Hill Street Birmingham B5 4EW will be packed with information and advice on the steps to becoming a teacher.


The Get Into Teaching West Midlands event will include opportunities to talk to training providers about courses they offer find out how to apply for teacher training explore what funding is available and connect with others interested in teaching. Information will also be available about how to fund your training – tax-free bursaries of up to £28000 to train as a teacher are available in selected subjects.


The free Get Into Teaching event aims to inspire more people in the area to join an exciting and varied profession that helps shape the lives of the next generation. It is part of a programme of events taking place in different locations across England this autumn organised by Get Into Teaching which offers free advice and support for those thinking about teaching and for those ready to apply.

According to a recent national survey* for Get Into Teaching more than nine in ten teachers (93%) say their students have had a positive influence on their outlook on life with a similar amount (92%) revealing they’ve learnt more about themselves from working with young people than they ever thought they would.

Post-graduate teacher training typically lasts one year with new trainees starting courses each September. Applications to train from next year opened 10th October 2023.

At the event there’ll be presentations covering the teacher training process and giving practical tips on how to apply. Other zones will allow visitors to meet teachers and have one-to-one conversations with teacher training advisers. There will also be an area for practical advice on topics such as confidence to teach and career progression.

For helping to shape the next generation you’re entitled to a competitive salary generous holidays and a substantial pension. All qualified primary and secondary teachers will have a starting salary of at least £30000 – this will be higher for teachers working in London.
