About this Event
Georgian Wine Tasting
Few countries produce wine as unique as Georgia. The winemaking is almost mythical with a focus on skin contact white wine making, dense tannic reds and the regular use of amphora (qvevri).
It is not a wine country for the feint hearted. The style can be confronting for those not used to the style or armed with a Khachapuri. Even the grape variety names sound like they left home and joined a gang: Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Khikhvi, etc.
Having said that, things have been changing in Georgia and we are starting to see a more diverse selection of styles here in Australia. Perhaps we are even slowly starting to see the end of the Funk Train era of Georgian Wine...
But don't worry, its not all smooth 80's saxophone jazz just yet. The wines are still full of personality and retain a unique Georgian identity. Maybe just starting to look a little less rough around the edges.
So join us as we taste through a selection of delicious Georgian wines!
