See STL: LGBTQIA+ History of the Central West End
These programs take place in person.
For most of the 20th century, St. Louis’s Central West End was a hub of LGBTQIA+ community life and political activism. This tour will explore some of the places that were instrumental in shaping the neighborhood’s fascinating history, including the locations of fabulous nightclubs and progressive churches, the home of the region’s first gay community center, and the starting point of St. Louis’s first Pride march. Along the way we’ll explain how St. Louis’s LGBTQIA+ citizens have been a part of the growth, decline, and renewal of neighborhoods throughout the city.
DETAILS
See STL walking tours are 2 hours in length and are wheelchair accessible. Tour starting/ending points are included in your booking info.
At the direction of the Department of Health for the City of St. Louis, protective face coverings are required for guests age 9 and up. Guests will also be asked to practice social distancing during the tour.

Dr. Koach Baruch Frazier, a rabbinical student at Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Pennsylvania, has long been committed to justice in the St. Louis region and nationally. Join Dr. Frazier to learn about their activism at the intersection of multiple movements as they work to dismantle hate and discrimination based in race, religion, gender, and sexuality.
This virtual program is free, but registration is required.

A woman whom Elizabeth Barrett Browning called “a perfectly emancipated female,” the sculptor Harriet Hosmer defied just about every gender, social, and cultural norm of her time. This talk with Community Tours Manager Amanda Clark will explore Hosmer’s life, her work, and her legacy—in St. Louis and far beyond.

Presented with the St. Louis Artists’ Guild
Tune in to hear from a panel of local artists featured in the St. Louis Artists’ Guild exhibition It Was All Very Queer. Featuring artists Tiélere Cheatem, Alex Johnmeyer, Amber Johnson, and Jared Rourke—and moderated by Zackary Petot, the St. Louis Artists’ Guild’s exhibition coordinator—the conversation will explore ways in which gender and sexual identity can be expressed through art.
These programs are associated with #GatewayToPride, presented by the William A. Kerr Foundation and AARP St. Louis.
