Join us on Saturday 7 September for a special extended opening event for Birmingham Heritage Week. Enjoy a rare opportunity to visit our Gardens and Glasshouses, after hours.
Throughout the day we’ll be offering some special opportunities to find out about the Gardens’ past, present and future, through a range of bite-sized drop-in walks and talks; as well as brilliant live music and some of Brum’s best food and drink.
Opening times for the day are 10am to 9:30pm, with last admission at 8:30pm.
Tickets from £9.50, plus optional gift aid donation.
Free for members.
Please note:
Some parts of the Gardens, such as the playground, will be closed from 8:30pm for safety reasons, due to low light levels.
Walks and talks are available for sign-up on the day on a first come first served basis in our Garden Suite.
Food and drink vendors to be confirmed.
Here's our packed day programme in full:
Gardens Art Club: Lily Pad Paper Crafts
11:30am to 6pm
170 years after they were first introduced to the Gardens, giant water lilies (Victoria cruziana) have returned to our Glasshouses,. Inspired by this, all ages are welcome to drop in to colour, cut or fold your way to creating your own waterlily or flower.
Conservation Ranger: Walk & Talk
12pm and 2pm
Take an informal stroll around the Gardens with Sila, the Gardens’ first ever Conservation Ranger. Sila will walk you through the Gardens’ recent freshwater surveys, talking about the species found on site; as well as discussing seasonal woodland patterns and species. Sign up at the meeting point on the terrace.
Performance: City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
12:30pm — 14:30
Join members of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra celebrate Heritage week at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. There’ll be an exciting array of musical moments with something for everyone!
Discovery Mini-Talk: Highlights from the Archive
3pm and 5pm
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Gardens have taken a dive into our archive this year. We’ll be presenting an informal display of some of the Gardens’ heritage, while our archivist, Salomea, will deliver two short talks about some of her favourite findings.
Growing Our Green Heritage: The Future
4pm and 6pm
Join Birmingham Botanical Gardens CEO Sara Blair-Manning for an exclusive look at our plans for the future as we prepare for a crucial project to transform the Gardens. Find out how you can get involved.
Performance: Heavy Beat Brass Band
