Garden Concert with Tony Tacheny at Chez Serendip

On Saturday, May 30th, the Chez Serendip Foundation is hosting a Garden Concert built around an artist we are proud to celebrate. Tony Tacheny will release his EP in the gardens of Chez Serendip, beneath the redwoods, with the evening shaped to land his final song right at sunset.

Music will move through the property across the night. We begin in the arena with horses and an opening song. We gather in the garden for an evening of music and storytelling. We close around the fire and carry the night into the Carriage Room for a late jam.

🐴 In the Arena

We will gather first in the arena, where our Barn Steward Abigail will introduce you to the three horses of Serendip, Dozer, Spirit, and Hattie. She will share the equine program we are developing as part of the Foundation. Local musician Reza will then perform from the back of a pickup truck and close with an original song called Spirit, written for one of the horses.

🎶 In the Garden, Storytellers Format

We will move together to the garden for an evening of music in the VH1 Storytellers tradition. Alisa will sit with each artist between songs and draw out the stories behind the writing. Origin moments, creative process, the through lines of their work. BYOB, teas and grazing fare will be served.

Before Tony takes the stage, Alisa will read an excerpt from her own writing, drawn from the first major creative project the Chez Serendip Foundation will be supporting. More to be revealed that evening.

🌅 Tony Tacheny, EP Release at Sunset

Tony will headline the garden stage with the release of his EP. Country Americana with the warmth of Kacey Musgraves and the storytelling of a long Southern evening. The set begins seated and moves into dance as the sun sets behind the redwoods.

🔥 Fireside Conversation

After sunset, gather around the fire for a conversation between Alisa and Jay Brown, also known as Mindfraime, a multidisciplinary artist working across music, video, and public art here on the Central Coast. They will sit together for a real exchange about building culture and community in Santa Cruz, what it asks of you, what it gives back, and what it takes to hold creative work in a real place.

🎹 Late-Night Jam in the Carriage Room

When the fireside ends, the circle keeps going. The Carriage Room will open for a late-night acoustic jam around the 1902 Steinway. Bring your instruments. Bring your voice.

The Chez Serendip Foundation is a nonprofit cultural sanctuary on six acres of historic redwood land in Scotts Valley, dedicated to supporting artists, musicians, writers, and the local creative community. The Foundation offers residencies, sliding scale programs, equine community gatherings, and a growing home for the work being made on the Central Coast.

This evening is free to attend. Your optional donation directly supports the Foundation's programs, including the equine program, artist residencies, and our growing community programming.

Chez Serendip is a working sanctuary. Artists live here, horses graze here, and creative work happens here daily. We ask that you arrive with care, follow posted signage, and respect the parts of the property that remain private. The terrain is natural and historic, with stairs, uneven ground, and forest trails.
