This continuing education program at Lighthouse of Pinellas is designed to give professional guardians a practical, firsthand understanding of the challenges associated with vision loss and the services available to support individuals who are blind or visually impaired.Participants will take part in four guided, hands-on learning experiences led by a certified instructor of the visually impaired. These experiences will focus on orientation and mobility, assistive technology, activities of daily living, and braille and tactile graphics. Through these interactive activities, guardians will gain a deeper understanding of how the services the Lighthouse of Pinellas provides help mitigate the challenges that can come with vision loss.
To gain a different perspective, the Lighthouse of Pinellas encourages tour participants to engage in each experience’s activities whilst under blindfold, focusing on other senses. This program will help professional guardians strengthen their awareness of available resources and enhance their ability to advocate for and support clients with vision loss.
