About this Event
GameCamp Edmonton's monthly events are open to all professional, indie, hobbyist, student, and aspiring game developers, as well as people who are working in other technology and creative fields and are interested in learning more about the game development industry in Alberta. While GameCamp's main community focus is based in Edmonton, we welcome anyone and everyone who is interested in being a part of our community, even if they're outside of Edmonton!
As it's November, it's the last GameCamp Monthly of the year! To end off the year, we are welcoming Neil Thompson (Art Director & Head of Audio, Inflexion Games), who will be sharing his talk, "Guidelines for Better Image Making."
Neil is an industry veteran who has worked in the games industry for over 30 years, working as Art Director for studios such as Psygnosis, Bizarre Creations, BioWare, and Inflexion Games. In his talk, Neil will be sharing his expertise in how to leverage psychological principals and compositional rules to create effective images that achieve maximum impact on the viewer. By understanding compositional rules, artists and creatives are able to use and break them to create images where each frame tells a story—stories that resonate more deeply with players because of the human drive to search for meaning and emotional connection.
While this talk primarily draws on film for its examples, the principles are absolutely transferrable to games.
This event is being hosted at the Stanley Milner Downtown branch of the Edmonton Public Library in Community Room 1 (in the basement)! After the talk, we'll head down and across the street to the for casual mingling, hanging out, and delicious food and drink.
As always, this event is free for anyone and everyone to attend, though please note that space is limited so RSVPs are required.
