From an Island of Resistance to New York: Gallery Galleon Brings a Legacy of Renewal and Ethical Practice to the City
Gallery Galleon NYC Spring Renewal, Hope April 8–12 188 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10013
Gallery Galleon arrives in New York this April with a clear position: meaningful contemporary art is built through commitment, not spectacle.
Founded in Vieques, Puerto Rico, a magnificent isla of rich flora and fauna, culture and peoples, Gallery Galleon developed as a cultural space deeply connected to place, history, and community. On an island shaped by decades of U.S. Navy military occupation, environmental damage, and sustained resistance, the gallery functioned as more than an exhibition venue. It became a site of continuity, support, and cultural presence for local and international artists alike.
That ethos now extends to New York.
Spring Renewal, Hope presents a group exhibition featuring JADE ROBERTSON, MARCO CARIDAD, VALERIE MOWBRAY, SARAH HOLL, MILISA GALAZZI, LINDSEY MOLYNEUX, and SANDRA REYES, curated by Marion Fischer. Across painting, mixed media, and conceptual practices, the artists engage themes of transformation, endurance, and growth shaped by pressure rather than ease.
Spring is not treated here as a symbolic reset. Renewal is approached as a process shaped by experience, memory, and responsibility. Hope emerges not as optimism, but as sustained effort. The works reflect cycles of collapse and rebuilding, holding vulnerability and strength in productive tension.
Gallery Galleon’s presence in New York reflects an expansion of its long-standing artist-first philosophy. Under Fischer’s direction, the gallery has consistently prioritized ethical models of support, including exhibitions in which proceeds go entirely to the artists or to nonprofit organizations in need. This approach positions the gallery not only as an exhibitor but as an active participant in cultural and social ecosystems.
Artist Marco Caridad, whose professional career began with Gallery Galleon, reflects on the gallery’s impact:
“At Gallery Galleon, I’ve received a level of support as an artist that I haven’t experienced anywhere else. Marion consistently creates exhibitions in which proceeds go entirely to artists or to nonprofit organizations that truly need them. Seeing that commitment in action, and being part of it, is something I’m genuinely proud of.”
Spring Renewal, Hope marks Gallery Galleon’s New York presentation as an extension of a practice rooted in care, ethics, and long-term vision. It introduces a program defined by intention rather than trend, and by values that remain consistent across geographies.
