Join us for a unique, half-day workshop blending digital technology and performing arts, presented by Alexander Whitley Dance Company and Darkfield.

Explore cutting-edge tools like digital movement animation, immersive binaural sound recording, motion capture technologies and interactive projection. Guided by industry professionals, you'll engage in hands-on tasks and collaborative activities. Immersing yourself in the world of digital performance for an afternoon of play and experimentation.

Create digital artworks and performance prototypes, develop valuable skills to enhance your CV and grow your knowledge in this cutting-edge field of creative practice. You’ll have the opportunity to network with experts and be in with a chance to showcase your work or develop an idea of the Digital Body Festival taking place in Hackney in November 2024.

About Alexander Whitley Dance Company
Alexander Whitley Dance Company (AWDC) is an internationally acclaimed artist-led creative studio that has been redefining the boundaries of dance over the past decade through its pioneering work with digital technology. We create multi-disciplinary performance experiences across stage, screen, immersive and interactive platforms, which have been presented across many of the world’s most prestigious theaters, festivals and media channels.The company’s goal is to inspire curiosity, discovery, and play through creative learning and new experiences. We focus on showing how important choreographic knowledge and physical thinking are, especially in driving technological innovation.

We create movement-based experiences and opportunities for everyone, making sure they are accessible and inclusive. Our workshops, training sessions, and artist development programmes use our custom software platform, Otmo, to inspire and nurture creativity in the next generation of artists.

DARKFIELD produces innovative immersive experiences at the forefront of technology and theatre - both location based experiences and digital work. DARKFIELD’s work utilises striking sets and shipping containers, binaural 360 degree sound, complete darkness and a variety of sensory effects, where each participant is situated at the centre of intense, evolving narratives. The shows have launched to critical acclaim, featuring in major film festivals such as BFI London Film Festival, Venice, IDFA, Tribeca, Raindance, SXSW and in 2021 won Columbia’s Digital Storytelling Lab’s Breakthrough Award in recognition of the year’s most innovative narrative. Alongside partners around the world, DARKFIELD has toured work in the UK, Australia & New Zealand, US & Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico and have so far reached over 500,000 audience members worldwide, and counting.

DARKFIELD runs workshops and masterclasses to share the company's practice with students and artists around the world - we are pleased to collaborate with Alexander Whitley Dance Company on this joint workshop in our London home of Hackney.
