Celebrating 21 Years Committed to Children, Community, Culture.
About this Event
This ceremony is unique as we will intersperse the award presentations throughout the evening as part of a theatrical piece we are producing titled “The Quiet Parts Out Loud: A Day in the Life of A.G. Gaston.” Recipients will be brought on stage during the performances without interrupting the overall production, ensuring a seamless experience while honoring each recipient.
This inspiring production, premiering during America’s Semiquincentennial, reflects on the remarkable life of Gaston, an iconic business mogul recognized by Black Enterprise as Entrepreneur of the Century. Gaston, who lived to 103, played a pivotal role in many significant milestones in American history.
Produced and written by Jimalita Tillman and directed by Boaz McGee, the play features a dynamic cast, including award-winning actor Arthur Barnes Jr. and multi-hyphenate talent Tony L. Austin. It is choreographed by the critically acclaimed Ian “Stormy” Archer. Through engaging musical numbers and powerful storytelling, the production highlights Gaston’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a catalyst for economic empowerment and civil rights.
Set against the backdrop of the civil rights movement, "Quiet Parts Out Loud" delves into Gaston’s collaborations with legendary figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to establishing Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national holiday. This performance is more than just a story; it’s a celebration of resilience, unity, and the enduring spirit of the African American experience.
