About this Event
This course is designed to offer the learner a safe space to gain insights into the uniqueness of offering supportive care to 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. In taking this course one will gain education in the most widely accepted and most up to date terminology and what terms may be inappropriate and why. Students of this course will learn about key historical events that have influenced healthcare disparities experienced by individuals in present day. In addition to learning about history, this course will educate on health equity related terms, why it is important to understand social determinants of health and their application in providing care.
In establishing these fundamentals, the course is designed to empower the professional to then apply that knowledge and incorporate “affirming” care into their interactions with patients/clients. In discussing affirming care, students will be given a view from the lens of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to learn how to use cultural humility to build trusting and positive relationships. Students will be asked to check in with themselves and evaluate their own self-awareness and bias. Best practices in employing cultural humility are explored in order to take away actions that can be put into practice immediately. Along this journey the student will be provided common examples for application of their new skills in a variety of settings.
**Montgomery County Ohio residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference.

We are ethically bound to report the accumulated amount of time a participant attended, therefore we cannot issue CEUs to:

· Individuals joining by audio phone only
· Those who do not ensure their name in the participant list is their full name as it appears in their registration
CEUs will be adjusted to the nearest quarter hour to reflect the amount of time present for sessions over 60 minutes in length.
