About this Event

This workshop will be delivered by the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Emergency and Acute Care. You'll benefit from expertise in healthtech evidence generation and evaluation and hear valuable insights about successful HealthTech development in the NHS.

The journey from identifying an unmet need to generating evidence for adoption and reimbursement is complex. This workshop will break down the process, highlight key hurdles, and share strategies to develop a compelling evidence case and secure funding.

What are the aims of the workshop?
  • To help companies that are developing diagnostics, digital health products, or medical devices to articulate unmet need from multiple perspectives (clinical, patient, economic).
  • To demonstrate what works (and what doesn't) through real company case studies.
  • To provide a practical framework for structuring your evidence story.
  • To introduce NIHR i4i and other funding routes for evidence generation.

Who should attend?
  • Industry innovators (SMEs, start-ups) developing health technologies for the UK market.
  • Industry innovators with limited experience of development and commercialisation of novel technology for the NHS.

Why this matters:

Building a compelling case for your innovation is harder than it looks. Different stakeholders (NICE, NHS, clinicians, patients) all define "unmet need" differently. This workshop will help you see your innovation through their eyes, learn from companies who succeeded (and failed), and leave with a clearer sense of your next steps.

By the end of the session you will:
  • Understand how different stakeholders (NHS, NICE, clinicians, patients) define unmet need
  • Have seen real examples of what successful and unsuccessful companies did differently
  • Have applied a practical framework for mapping your own evidence gaps
  • Know what NIHR i4i and other funders look for in applications
  • Appreciate the importance of co-design, stakeholder engagement, and health equity
