About this Event
This self care and activism resource fair is for anyone feeling political anxiety, fear, dread, or rage and needing the tools of deep trauma-informed self-care, catharsis, creativity, and connection.
Resistance is Local! Join us April 18 at Brick @ Bluestar to begin to heal ourselves and each other in community.
Self Care: The evening begins with movement and breath work appropriate and accessible to most bodies (chairs available for those who have trouble getting to the floor). This yoga practice is specifically designed to bring participants back into their bodies, to trust and honor the reality of their feelings and experiences during this stressful time. The practice will conclude with a sweet sunset ceremony at the river to honor the sacred waters of Yanaguana, release our pain, fears and petitions, and invite hope and resilience. In addition to the yoga session, participants can enjoy 15-minute massages, individual reiki sessions, and hair braiding
Catharsis: Participants will get to scream, stomp, dance, shake and be silly, and (safely) break pottery and china to be used in a community art project!Creativity: Together we’ll take the broken pottery pieces and create a piece of community artwork. Other art making activities include: collage making, working with clay, poetry, DIY yard signs, working with essential oils, screen print your own shirt or bag, put together your own herbal tea bags, zine-making, wheatpasting, and more.
Connection to Community: Connect with local organizers and activists doing great work in San Antonio. Learn about your free speech and labor rights; get policy updates from the city, state and national level on issues including immigrant rights, climate, LGBTQ+ issues, food justice, homelessness, and reproductive justice. Discover how to build support networks within your own neighborhoods to weather the intensifying political storms.
Deceleration will be onsite to live-stream from the event, and collect your testimonials and calls to action.
Pride Center San Antonio will lead a Pod Mapping Workshop - Pod Mapping a process of identifying and documenting your personal support network, or "pods," to foster stronger relationships and ensure mutual support, especially in situations of harm or crisis.
The evening concludes with a community drum circle! This event is brought to you by local individuals and organizations who believe that community-centered self care, creativity, and connection are vital to our resilience and resistance through troubling times.
