This special event chronicles the 45-year journey of I Giullari di Piazza - America’s only professional Italian folk music and theater company - founded in 1980, as visionary artists Alessandra Belloni and John La Barbera transform Southern Italy’s ancient rhythms, sacred stories, and Commedia dell’Arte traditions into a living legacy of music, dance, and cultural preservation in the heart of New York City.
Featuring live music with:
Alessandra Belloni - artistic director, vocals, percussion
John La Barbera - music director, guitar, mandolin
Special Guest:
Gypsy Joe - vocal, accordion, percussion
Special Guest Speaker:
Mary Lou Romano, artistic director of the renowned Italian American Folk Music and Dance company Coro D'Italia, founded 90 years ago and still performing thanks to the artistic direction of Mary Lou Romano, also a former student of Alessandra Belloni.
Ticket price includes admission to the Museum's current exhibitions, "Totò and his Naples", "Sicilian Theater in Little Italy: The Return of the Manteo Puppets" and "Goodnight, Maria: A Tribute to all the women who worked tirelessly in the garment industry to live the American dream".
